Today I was driving my Kia Rio to work and I decided to try country
music for a change of pace, but when I found the country station my
ears were accosted by a barrage of filth. I'm referring to Johnny
Cash's song, Ring of Fire.
The true meaning is undeniable: "ring of fire" really refers to the
anal sphincter, and by falling into it he means he screwed a guy in
the ass. And if that wasn't bad enough, he then sings about going
"down, down, down on the ring of fire", i.e., anallingus. You can't
tell me that this song isn't dripping with homosexual innuendo, and
that Cash is not therefore a queer.
Except that June Carter wrote the song, not Johnny...

Except that June Carter wrote the song, not Johnny...
Originally, this song was written in part by June Carter - who later became
June Carter-Cash. She fell in love with Johnny while he was still married to
his first wife, and the lyrics reflect how strongly she was drawn to the
troubled Man in Black, but knew he was both off-limits and a dangerous soul
with whom to trust her heart. 'Ring of Fire' evokes biblical themes, in that
lusting after another's husband or wife is a sin, and falling into a ring of
fire both reflects a decent into Hell, and the danger June felt in attaching
herself to Cash's destructive lifestyle. At the point in his life this song
was written, Cash lived dangerously and was becoming addicted to
amphetamines.
It took 10 years, a divorce, and several run-ins with the law and the
hospital before Cash and Carter finally came together as man and wife. And
until they both died in recent years, they lived a happy life together, with
no flames to be seen. Now that they're gone, it's anyone's guess if they
remain that way.

It doesn't matter who wrote it. Why would Johnny Cash sing a song
with all that gay innuendo? Straight men don't do that.
June Carter-Cash. Classic beard. No wonder Roseanne Cash grew up to
become a Lisbon. Her real "old man" was probably a turkey baster.

That's kind of harsh, dewd... I mean, Roseanne *is* kind of trashy but
isn't garbage kind of going a little too far?

wonderful post....thanks for that...
my folks knew Johnny and June, "way back when", and I feel safe is
assuring all that he was definitely not gay...to blacken the character
of anyone is terrible, but to do that to someone who has died, in my
opinion, is about as low as one can sink....
shame on you....find something better to do with your time...
By "not gay" do you mean kind of not ACTIVELY gay, more "in the
closet"?

Your wrong on all accounts!!!
http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2787
And it's, "I fell in to a ring of fire..."
And you are a "ring of fire"!!!
Your looking like a complete idot.

Ring of Fire. Connect the dots. Homosexual subtext was rampant in
the 50's and 60's when it was verboten to mention certain things
"overtly".

It's not that there's anything wrong with Johnny Cash being gay. At
least he wasn't a sissy about it like George Jones was (and is).

One of the icons of country music is clearly gay and you guys are
worrying about what kind of car I drive.
You know, "Carl Banks" is the kind of name a gay country music icon
would have...

Of course, what these people are forgetting about Johnny Cash is that
he used to live with another man - and it was Waylon Jennings!!!

Oh, can (s)he?

I've been silent for too long. This is ridiculous.

This the WORST troll I have seen in YEARS!

I normally don't even bother with trolls,
but this one, I had to add to my filters;
it's so ridiculous.

About a year ago, we adopted a kitten.
Originally. her name was "Red", but, I
noticed she was black ( diluted with sable).

On the way home, in the car, I was discussing with a friend:
What then, shall we name her?

He suggested: "Why not 'The Man in Black?' "
Since the cat is female, I opted for a different name.

How about the offspring of June and Carl?

Hence, the name: Carlene - in honor of Johnny Cash.

Now, I will go back to lurking. It's been fun, but I gotta run.
