Chesney faces questions about surprise wedding
Entertainer of the Year says Zellweger simply asked when, where to
show up

Updated: 5:52 p.m. ET May 18, 2005
Although Kenny Chesney won the Academy of Country Music’s “Entertainer
of the Year” award, the media was more anxious to talk about his
recent marriage to Renee Zellweger than music.

The wedding questions flew fast and furious backstage at Tuesday
night’s ACM Awards, so much so that Kenny’s publicist stepped in at
one point and asked for a few questions about his top honor.

But Kenny did provide his first extensive comment on his new marriage.

How is married life? “To be honest with you, it’s not that different,”
said Kenny. “I’m a little more at ease, you know? I’m not searching
and that’s what’s great about her. She’s a great girl.”

Kenny said Renee didn’t let him propose. “She just told me to name a
time and place and she’d be there.’’

Renee kept a low profile at the event. “She’s got a movie coming out
or she’d be here tonight,” Kenny said backstage.

But she was spotted at the after-party and remained camera-shy.

In response to a question on how the twosome will celebrate his award,
Kenny predicted more of the same. “Well, we did our honeymoon in
Little Rock at a show. I had to go back on the road, so we went to
Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Dallas and San Antonio. And then I flew
here. So it wasn’t that great of a honeymoon.”

Earlier in the evening, Kenny’s fellow country music stars related how
they heard about the hush-hush wedding.

Gretchen Wilson said Kenny tipped her off a week before the ceremony.

But Tim McGraw said he was thrown for a loop.

“I thought he was gay for the longest time!” said Tim, sporting a big
grin and causing wife Faith Hill to laugh. “This surprised the hell
out of me!”

He was obviously kidding. My boss has a friend whose girlfriend was
stolen by Chesney at one point. Said Kenny is definitely not gay
unless being a tiny guy makes him so.

WEHT to that country star Ty Herndon, the one who was arrested in some
Texas park for trying to pick up an undecover (male) cop? They tried to
shift the focus to a drug charge to "lessen" the impact to his career.
I would imagine he's more careful in the guys he cruises these days.

That was strange. The whole thing seemed to be either completely swept under
the rug by Nashville/Memphis(?) police or the press suddenly lost interest.
But the thing just went away. That's been at least 5 years ago. I think he
ended up claiming it was a misunderstanding.

Our local DJ had a great line at the time. Ty England was about to release
a new CD, and the Jock said that the record company quickly changed the name
of his album to "I AM NOT TY HERNDON."

When I looked it up, I was surprised to see it was 10 years ago. He's been
in rehab twice. Meth was his drug of choice, but it lead to others.

From http://lounge.teamshania.com/showthread.php?t=5102

"Herndon's life on stage as part of a major record label started in 1995
when the Butler, Ala., native got a deal with Epic Records after knocking
around Nashville and Texas honky-tonks for 10 years.

Herndon hit No. 1 with his first single, What Mattered Most. That song still
was on the charts when he was arrested in a Texas park during a sex sting.
Police reports said Herndon was at Fort Worth Gateway Park June 13 and waved
at an undercover police officer, who then approached Herndon. The singer
exposed himself, the report said.

Officers also said they found a bag of methamphetamines in his billfold
during booking. Herndon was charged with indecent exposure and drug
possession. The indecent exposure charge was later dropped.

Herndon never has addressed the sex sting part, other than to say police
mishandled it and to reiterate the indecent exposure part was dropped."

Yep, Gateway Park in Fort Worth is not a place for people that are not gay,
or looking for something that is not legit, most people here in Fort Worth
stay away even during daytime, it is also the place where the bikers would
meet before the annual toy run, but it was so bad that the bikers started
meeting downtown at Sundance Square
